Selous Game Reserve (SGR)

UNESCO World Heritage since 1982

A visit to the Selous Game Reserve is a special adventure. You can expect a unique unspoilt nature. There are only very few areas of this type and size in Africa, which can claim this superlative. The area has a size of 48000 kmē, 5 % of the size of whole Tanzania. The Selous Game Reserve is between 100m and 1260 m above sea level. 75 % of the landscape is wood, grassland, swamp, savanna and tight thorn bush.

The animal kingdom is represented with almost all larger types of animals of East Africa. Although there are about 160,000 buffaloes and ca. 30,000 elephants, there is not such a high density as in some other national parks because the Selous Game reserve is huge. A specialty are the African wild dogs, which are extinguished in many parts of Africa, there are about 4000 of them.

It seems that all the birds are represented there. In fact, there are 400 species, some of them can even be watched on the area of the lodge
